Regional Profile
The year 2013 gave birth to a new region in Namibia called Kavango West region following the demarcation of the then Kavango region, making it the youngest of all existing 14 regions.
Apart from being known for its beautiful river and favourable climatic condition, the region boarders the Cuando Cubango Province on the northern part and neighbors the Kavango East region on the eastern part, on the northwest boarders the Ohangwena Region, following the western and southern part where it borders Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa regions respectively.
The region has eight (8) constituencies namely: Mpungu, Nkurenkuru, Tondoro, Musese, Kapako, Ncuncuni, Ncamagoro and Mankumpi. Nkurenkuru is the capital and only town, with Katwiwi being the only declared settlement in the region.
Unemployment rate in the region is at 33 percent, with 46.8 percent recorded just amongst the youth.
Population Size
The region is about 99.9 percent predominantly of rural setup, with mere 0.01 % of people residing in urban areas. The region overall size covers an area of 24 591 km, with a population size of close to 90-thousand, females covering above 46-thousand (46 000) while males above 41-thousand (41 000).
Priority Sectors
This remains one of the most attractive investment proposition, making the sector in the region one important one given the natural gifts in form of river and the average annual rainfall received between 450 and 600 mm, in which January and February is recorded the highest.
